WOMAN RAN 100 MILES
Easier Than Expected (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 26. Mrs M. Sampson, the Auckland women’s cross-country champion and the unofficial national champion, completed a training week of 100 miles of running last night. She trained with the Olympic Games marathon nominee, I. Keats, twice daily. Starting out at 6 a.m. each morning, Mrs Sampson covered 4j miles, then travelled to her work at a factory for a full day’s work. Each evening she ran with Keats again, the distances varying from eight to 12 miles. On Saturday they ran 15 miles. Mrs Sampson undertook her marathon training to “see how hard it would be to run 100 miles.” She found it less difficult than she expected. She has now resumed her normal training.
