Council Grants £l5 15s
At its monthly meeting held recently, the Westland County Council approved a donation of £l5 15s to the South. Island Publicity Association. Cr. M. Wallace was appointed the council’s representative to attend the annual meeting of the Hokitika Businessmen’s Association.
No “Mad Splurge”.—Nearing home is Mr R. Doherty, a 43-year-old clerk of Sydney, who was given three months' leave of absence without pay by his employer after winning first prize of £6OOO in a lottery. He arrived in the Oronsay at Auckland yesterday and has been to the United States. He said he had not gone on “a mad splurge” with his winnings. —(P-A.)
