LAY IN PETROL
(N.Z. Press Association) NAPIER, May 25. A man lay pinned under a truck for two hours in freezing conditions after an accident at Puketitiri, 40 miles from Napier, early this morning. He is Eric Petersen, aged 29, of lona road, Havelock North. While Mr Petersen lay in pain, his companion, Larry Palmer, of Havelock North, ran six miles for help. Mr Petersen was later admitted to the Napier Hospital. His condition was reported to be fairly comfortable. The accident happened when a 1940 15cwt truck fell 40ft down a bank. It came to rest against a fence. Mr Petersen was pinned with his legs underneath the vehicle. Petrol poured from the truck’s tank, soaking Mr Petersen’s clothing. Within a few minutes the petrol started to burn his skin;
