LAMB PRICE VP AGAIN

Advances At Smithfield (Special Crspdt. . N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, May 25. The price of New Zealand lamb rose id per lb today on Smithfield market, returning to 2s 2Jd —its level of a fortnight ago. The increase reflected the publicity given the “beef crisis,” and buyers’ resistance to paying higher prices for beef. Meat has now become a political subject in Britain, and Labour is charging the Government with being responsible for a “muddle” and causing an increase in the cost of living. In fact, there is no shortage of meat or poultry in Britain, but beef supplies are about 18,000 tons down, or about 5 per cent pf the total supply. One of the main reasons for publicity about the present position is the buying of live cattle in Britain by Continental countries which, like Britain, have felt the effects of smaller supplies from Argentina. .
