NEW PLATES ON CARS
Display Next Month
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 21. “1 intend to ask Parliament in the coming session to amend the Transport Act so that motorists may display new registration plates or licence labels at any time during June—the month before the start of the new licensing year,” the Minister of Transport (Mr McAlpine) announced today. “For this year I am asking the enforcement authorities to accept the display of new plates or labels (effective from July 1) throughout June. “This will give owners the remainder of June from the time they relicence to fix the new plates or labels to their vehicles,” said Mr McAlpine. The . motor registration offices would not issue new plates or labels unless the vehicles were licensed to the end of June. This should ensure that vehicles displaying new plates or labels before July 1 were currently licensed and carried statutory third-party insurance,. said Mr McAlpine.
