GV.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 21. The North Island power demand reached a record peak of 1,335,300 kilowatts on Wednesday e/ening. This was nearly 21,000 kilowatts higher than the peak load in 1963 and gave the Electricity Department a taste of things to come this winter.
“We are going to get some good loads this winter,” said the Auckland District electrical engineer (Mr H. E. Evans) today. “The' peaks will be up considerably on last yeu.” The previous record load was 1.314,000 kilowatts on July 29. 1963. Power consumption reached more than 22 million units in the North Island on Wednesday. This is the highest figure this year. The highest consumption in May last year was just over 20 million units.
