DEVELOPMENT CONFERENCE
Some Reports This Month
There had been some criticism of the lack of publicity about the work of the Agricultural Development Conference the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Taiboys) said at the opening of the Lincoln College farmers’ conference. This had come as something of a surprise, he said. This work, which was being done by men working parttime, amounted to an overhaul of New Zealand agriculture.
“I am sure that their work would have been done less effectively if it had been in the public gaze,” said Mr Taiboys. The conference had had two meetings already and another was scheduled for the end of this month, and at this meeting some of the working parties would present some of their findings and others would make interim reports. Referring to the working party studying weeds and pests, Mr Taiboys said he was not going to try to predict what this group would recommend, but he had been wondering whether it would not. be possible to bring together into one organisation pest and weed control. “We will see what the working party says about this,” he said.
