FISH PONDS AT TUNNEL
County Council
Concerned
The design of the fish ponds and water channels at the Heathcote portal of the road tunnel occupied the Heathcote County Council during a debate in Committee lasting nearly an hour last evening. At the end, the texts were released of two letters which the council will send the Christchurch Drainage Board.
The letters read: (1) “In view of the fact that we have no reply to our previous correspondence, and that this council views with' alarm the possible hazard created by the. construction of a pond and dam, we request an urgent reply; and in the meantime the council has no alternative but to hold the board responsible” (for any damage which may result). (2) “This council wishes to draw the attention of the board to the twin culverts under the underpass at the Heathcote portal, which are nearly filled with silt, and would ask that this be cleared immediately.”
