Tractor Deaths
Sir,—The Department of Agriculture is greatly concerned over the toll of tractors, and it is now time for action. Why are not all tractors sold complete with safety device, and no machine allowed to be delivered without one? “Regularly and insidiously valuable metaibers are being whittled away by a cause that can be corrected," said Mr Crosbie, and how truly he spoke. But what is so disturbing is the apathy and inaction in this grave situation. According to a report on May 6 safety cabs which reduce the danger are restricted in number owing to import licensing. This is a disgrace. No commodity for the protection of life should be restricted, particularly when things uneconomic and even a danger to life are allowed in all too freely. Could not New Zealand manufacture its own inventions if they are pre ed to be sound and thoroughly efficient?—Yours, etc., A LIFE SAVED. May 19, 1964.
