VICEREGAL VISIT
Rotarians Told Of Purpose The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) said when he spoke to the Christchurch Rotary Club yesterday that he and Lady Fergusson had felt they could not get to know Christchurch or Canterbury at all by flying visits for a day or two to open a tunnel “or whatever it might be.” They would spend a month in Canterbury, but even then they would have merely scratched the surface, his Excellency said.
This was the first opportunity be had had of speaking to a cross-section of the community. Sir Bernard Fergusson said Both he and Lady Fergusson were unhappy to have had to refuse so many invitations.
“But there comes a time when you can’t slip a razor blade into the gaps in your engagement book,” he added.
