“POUIHI” POLE FOR NEW ZEALAND HOUSE.—Inia Te Wiata, the Maori singer, at work on one of the carvings of Maori warriors which will form the pole. Each figure is 7ft 6in tall, and there will be 16 of them on the completed 45ft pole. They are cut in totara specially imported from New Zealand, and Mr Te Wiata hopes to have the pole completed in two years.
