Obituary
MR J. S. NORRIS
A well-known Lyttelton resident, Mr John Stephen Norris, has died at the age of 90. Mr Norris began work as a butcher’s apprentice at Owen and Dyer’s Lyttelton butchery, at the age of 15. He later transferred to J. D. Bundy’s Lyttelton butchery and was employed there for 50 years. Following this he worked at Pitcaithly*s Lyttelton butchery for 10 years but retired from active work at the age of 75, apart from occasionally helping when the need arose. Keenly interested in horseracing throughout his life, Mr Norris. frequently participated in picnic racing outings at Burwood and Heathcote Bridge when these functions were popular. He owned several trotters including the successful Dusky Ainter. A keen interest in yachting stemmed from the fact that his son is a prominent Lyttelton yachtsman.
Mr Norris was a member of the Canterbury Kilwinning Masonic Lodge No. 23. Until two years ago, Mr Norris had enjoyed good health. He is survived by his daughter, Miss Mona Norris, and his son, Mr H. S. Norris, both of Lyttelton. ' ' ,
