Coast Tolls Restored
Toll lines to Greymouth, which were cut by snow and high winds near Arthur’s Pass at 11 p.m. on Friday were restored by 6 p.m. on Monday. Wires were broken and several poles were down between Avoca and Arthur’s Pass. A party of linemen from Greymouth came through the Otira railway tunnel to help Canterbury men and they restored 12 speech circuits to Greymouth and three to Hokitika by 2.30 p.m. on Sunday. The circuit, was broken again at 2.30 p.m. on Monday and another three circuits were brought in. The service was in full working order by 6 p.m. Tolls to the West Coast went through Nelson at the week-end.
