Favourite Beaten By Race Guide

The favourite, Beau Seant, appeared to have the Seaclown Hack Handicap as good as won when he shook off the attentions of two challengers on .the home turn at Amberley on Saturday. But he could not live with the top weight, Race Guide, in the last half furlong and was beaten by a length.

Race Guide finished at a great rate from the middle of a strung-out field. He was a chance mount for the leading apprentice, J. R. Dowling, who secured the mount when the horse's trainer-jockey, N. T. Cowles, was injured in a fall in the hurdles. Beau Seant, which had travelled at a great rate from wide out to get to the front well inside the first furlong, saved second by half a length from Llanawyn, which had tried to speed duel With him in front nearing, the home turn.

The two two-year-blds, Debbie Marie and Status Symbol, dashed forward from the outside to duel for the lead while R. J. Skelton kept Natavia in the trailing position.Status Symbol drifted wide on’ the turn and forced Debbie Marie out towards the middle. This left a wide inside gap for Natavia, and the Pictavia filly took it quickly to lead into the last furlong and draw clear. At the end she had a length and a half on Debbie Marie, which beat Status Symbol by half a length. The others were beaten off. Bushido led them in, just beating Saint Steven and Lucky Crown.
