The Press MONDAY, MAY 18, 1964. Welcome Guests
The Governor-General is giving Christchurch a generous opportunity to get to know him, Lady Fergusson, and their son better. Though they have only just returned from a lively and successful Pacific tour, their Excellencies have now begun a month’s programme that will introduce them to a large number of Canterbury people and organisations. A short stay would limit them largely to formal occasions: a month will give them time to see how people live and work in Canterbury. Our visitors are sure of a warm welcome wherever they go. Citizens know Sir Bernard and Lady Fergusson well enough after their year and a half at Government House to be certain that their attention and contributions on any occasion will be rewarding. We hope their Excellencies will find their stay in Canterbury equally agreeable.
