NOTABLE MONTH
Phenomenal results have been achieved in the second month of the trials of the New Zealand Heavy Breed Utility Poultry Club. Two six-bird Australorp teams belonging to J. L. James and Bruce Graham, both of Amberley, scored a possible of 168—each bird laid ai egg on each day of the month.
The over-all egg production level of the Australorp sixbird teams in the trial was 93 per cent of the possible.
“Never before in the history of the club have such exceptional results been recorded,” says the trials secretary, Mr R. J. Thom. The mortality to date has also been very low with only four deaths out of the 456 birds housed. Leading teams at the end of the second month were: Six-bird Teams.—Australorps: B. Graham (Amberley), 321. White Leghorns: Bromley Park (Auckland), 304. Rhode Island Reds: Miss M. Barker (Geraldine), 308. Crossbreds: H. T. Hudson (Shannon), 278. Cages: H. G. Sugden (Christchurch), 303. Twenty-bird Teams.—Australorps: G. W. Graham (Ashburton), 914 eggs. White Leghorns: H. G. Sugden, 808. Crossbreds: B Graham, 807. Leading teams for the second month were: Six-bird Teams.—Australorps: J. L. James and B. Graham, each 168 eggs. White Leghorns: Bromley Park, 164. Rhode Island Reds: Miss M. Barker, 158.
