400 TURKISH DEAD IN CYPRUS CONFLICT
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright)
NEW YORK, May 14. Greek Cypriots had killed more than 400 Turkish Cypriots in the Cyprus troubles, the Turkish-Cypriot Vice-President (Dr. Fadil Kutchuk) said yesterday.
Another 700 had been wounded, he said in a letter to the United Nations Secre-tary-General (U Thant). Dr. Kutchuk said there had been “no improvement in the situation” in Cyprus since the United Nations force became operational on March 27.
Turkish-Cypriot homes, shops, factories and other property had been looted “despite every effort of the peace-loving nations of the world to stop these and other atrocities.” Archbishop’s Speeches It was “very significant” that Archbishop tlakarios had “not categorically renounced the use of violence by the Greek community” on U Thant’s appeal. He had in fact made “warlike speeches” at Limassol and Ktima recently, Dr. Kutchuk said. His Turkish community believed “such acts and utterances are indicative of Greek designs to continue and renew acts of violence against the Turks.”
