Lyttelton’s Historic Building
Sir, —As the historian of Lyttelton, I have for some years kept an anxious eye on the beautiful old bank building near the corner of Norwich quay and Dublin street, lest it disappear. I am glad to see that something is now likely to be done to preserve it, and trust it can be acquired and renovated by the borough council. The idea of having it for a museum is excellent, and this could be combined with the public library that I gather is now seeking a new home. The two would naturally go together. In the meantime I hope visitors to Lyttelton (and residents) will have a good look at the building and give their support to Cr. Camfield for the project. Will the National Historic Places Trust make a new application for action in the matter? This is important.—Yours, etc., JOHN JOHNSON. May 15, 1964.
