SENTENCE QUASHED
Three Years’ Gaol Instead (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 11. A sentence of preventive detention was quashed and appellant given three years’ imprisonment when an appeal by David George Keenan, a labourer, of Christchurch, was heard in the Appeal Court today.
The appeal was against the sentence.
Keenan was charged with breaking and entering several Christchurch premises with intent to commit a crime. He faced 19 burglary charges, eight of attempted' burglary and one of being a rogue and a vagabond. He appealed on the grounds that the sentence was severe and denied him the opportunities of redeeming himself for reformation.
