CHARGES OF NEGLECT
f.V.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, April 27. William Dwyer, aged 31, cook, was remanded to Oakley Hospital for a month for observation when he came before Mr R. M. Grant, S.M., for sentence on two charges of neglecting his children in a manner likely to cause them suffering. Last week, when he was charged, Dwyer admitted that the children, Michael, aged 16 months, and Peter, aged 4 months, were in his custody. The Court was then told that the children were braised and dirty and were left naked and unattended for hours in a rat-infested Ponsonby yard. Child Welfare officers who were called said both had [severe urine rash. Michael was found to have a mis-shapen nose from a i previous injury, and Peter i had four-week-old insect I bites, that had been scratched land become infected.
