EARLY SOLO FLIGHT

Only Six Hours Of Instruction A Canterbury Aero Club pupil, Miss Pamela Lock, made her first solo flight after only six hours of dual instruction at Christchurch Airport on Sunday. The average time is 10 hours. Miss Lock is the winner of the club’s “Powder Puff” flying scholarship. The scholarship, awarded by the club and Airwork, N.Z., Ltd., was to promote interest in flying, said the chief instructor, Mr I. Gundersen. Miss Lock, who is a second year science student at the University of Canterbury, will now receive free instruction to qualify for a private pilot’s licence. This will take 40 hours’ flying. More than 100 people competed for the scholarship.
