More Industry Scheme The Christchurch City Council’s decision to set up a sub-committee to investigate ways of attracting industry was a progressive step in the city’s industrial development, said the actingpresident of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association (Mr C. W. Mace). Mr Mace said the City Council’s four initial steps, approved at its meeting’ last week, covered a wide field. “Possibly the most important decision of the City Council is the one to survey other cities and boroughs to obtain details of any action they have taken to attract industry to their districts,” he said. The Canterbury' Manufacturers’ Association suggested that this should be taken a stage further and a survey be made of overseas cities, of a similar size to Christchurch, to obtain details of the incentives offered industry. “Overseas, there is a strong recognition of the need to encourage industrial expansion to ensure the. continued growth of the community,” Mr Mace said. “If the Christchurch City Council could introduce some of these attractive incentives it. would give a greater impetus to our industrial expansion.” The decision to have details of industrial land available in Christchurch will help the council in its discussion with industrialists. “The Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association has its own industrial promotion committee and it offers the council every cb-operation and assistance,” Mr Mace said-
