OFFICIAL REPORT

The official report issued by the Christchurch Woolbrokers Association In eonjunction with the Wool Buyers' Association and the New Zealand Wool Commission, states:

‘•The final Christchurch wool sale for the 1963-64 season was held yesterday at the Wool Exchange building when an offering of 30.484 bales was submitted. The offering was a mixed one. drawn from Marlborough. Nelson. West Coast and Chathams, in addition to the foothills and back country of Canterbury. It included an unusually large percentage of second-shear and lambs’ wool amounting to about 35 per cent of the total offering. The condition showed considerable variation with a certain quantity of clean, well-grown fleece, but with a fairly large proportion showing more or less dust and discoloration. The lambs’ wool opened up quite well on the whole with some attractive lots both in the fine and medium qualities, while the second-shear was mostly average to good in style and condition. Piece wools and oddments were about up to their usual standard for this sale. "Recent reports from the North Island had indicated an easier market, and this was borne out when the sale opened with a full bench of buyers. Competition was fairly good on the better sorts, but rather restricted and irregular on poorer qualities. Continental buyers supplied the main bidding, with good support from Bradford and some from the U.S.A, on suitable lots. "As compared with the recent Wellington sale prices for medium and fine crossbred wools can be quoted as 2i per cent down, and coarse crossbred In buyers’ favour. Fine wools were fully easier by 5 to 7i per cent compared with last Timaru sale, with inferior sorts at times neglected. "Passings were a good deal heavier than at the earlier sales.”
