“DREAM FOR A THEME”
Lincoln College i Concert ) “Dream For a Theme” was i the title of Lincoln College’s ; sixth annual concert held : last evening in the Lincoln ; Community Centre, but it would have been a nightmare for a conscientious censor who- wanted to have some of the original left when he had finished. Contemporary characters and situations were satirised, but with an emphasis on the vulgar. Musical items, in general, were better presented and more polished than the sketches. The Springstons, a folk-singing trio, gave some very pleasant numbers. The Beatles could not be passed by. Three “Beatles” complete with wigs, guitars, and a- ready ability to adapt the words of that group’s songs to suit the general tone of the concert, brought plenty of screams from the audience. Sketches included “Dr Killjoy,” with yards of intestines draped round the stage and the inevitable carving knife. “Ye Old Inne,” set in a local hotel, featured a varied selection of drinkers, local inhabitants’ and “bar-girls” in short blue dresses and long black stockings. The “girls’ ”' can-can was. well received. “Squirma La Douce” was a somewhat, more' lurid version of the film showing in the city at the moment. Hostel life at Lincoln was colourfully depicted in “Flat Out at Lincoln.” “Cleopatra,” described’ as “an adult Eastern” followed. Pleasant interludes among the rowdiness of the sketches were provided by the overseas students at Lincoln. An Indonesian dance was presented against a shimmering gold background by the only woman performer, Yvonne Laloan. The sounds and dances of the continent of Africa came in a bracket from the African students. The plaintive sound of a Nepalese Farewell song was a pleasing contrast after the Beatles. The programme was produced by Leyden Baker.
