CONSTITUTION FOR MUSIC SCHOOL

A draft constitution for the Christchurch School of Instrumental Music has been submitted to the Justice Department for approval for the school to be registered as an incorporated society. This would officially separate the school from the Christchurch Schools' Music Association, said the directordesignate of the school (Mr R. E. Perks). The instruments taught include the recorder, melodica, violin, viola, ’cello, bass, flute, oboe, and clarinet There are now six orchestras, and a “military band” provides concerted music for the many woodwind and brass instruments in excess of those needed for a proper balance in the orchestra. In all, more than 2000 pupils have had training under the scheme. Several have entered the National Youth Orchestra and the Christchurch Civic Orchestra.
