VISITORS to the conference of the New Zealand Farm Forestry Association at Blenheim watched a demonstration of high pruning during a visit to the Marlborough Catchment Board’s plantations near the Wairau river. This operator is using equipment, developed overseas and known as a tree bicycle, to scale a tree. It is more often used for specialist work such as collecting seed. Workers with light 15ft ladders with platforms and elevators used to reach heights of 50 and 60ft were also seen in action.
