CLOSER TIES WITH DUTCH
Indonesian Forecast (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, March 31. The Indonesian Foreign Minister, Dr. Subandrio, is convinced that the relations between Indonesia and Holland will become closer than those with any other Western nation. Dr. Subandrio said this in an interview in Paris with the Dutch Labour Broadcasting corporation V.A.R.A. He said these relations should be seen in a wider context than that of the exchange of Ambassadors only. The past would be no stumbling block for relationships on a new basis, Dr. Subandrio said. What had happened in the past had not been tragic. Every young nation passed through a difficult time gaining independence.
Dr. Subandrio said the exchange of envoys at ambassadorial level was already agreed upon during talks in New York prior to the actual exchange, but the lack of a suitable Indonesian official for this function had so far been the reason that this arrangement had not yet been realised. “We consider Holland an important post," he said, “and we cannot just send anyone.”
