Duties include the examination of designs of boilers, lifts, cranes and air receivers, examination of plans of new ships, preparation of ships’ machinery specifications, checking of survey re ports and other work associated with ship surveys. The work provides a wide range of industrial engineering experience and modern design practice. Qualifications required are a First-class Certificate of Competency endorsed for steam or motor and watchkeeping experience as a senior engineer on foreign going ships. Additional qualifications such as A.MI. Meeh., E. or Extra First-class Certificate of Competency arc preferred, although consideration will be given to applicants who have commenced studying or who are prepared to study for such higher qualifications. In such cases generous study leave will be given. Starting salary between £1235 and £1475 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
