BELEM (Brazil), April 1
Mrs Joan Merriam Smith, California’s flying housewife, said yesterday she would take off tomorrow for Dakar, Senegal, on the next leg of her solo flight round the world. She made an emergency landing at Belem on Monday because of bad weather over the Amazon jungle after leaving Paramaribo, Surinam. Mrs Smith had planned to land in Natal, Brazil.
