TROTTING Sooty Expected To Go Well At Greymouth

Sooty made a forward showing at the Ashburton trials last week and if he reproduces the same dash tonight he should go close to winning the Buller Handicap at Victoria Park. This is one of two races at the Greymouth Trotting Club’s Easter meeting for horses which have had one win.

Sooty has shown consistent form this season and he was twice placed at Greymouth in October. His most recent start was in the President’s Handicap on the first night of the current Addington meeting. He finished tenth after being awkwardly placed most of the way.

He will meet much weaker opposition at Greymouth and he should be much harder to beat.

Vaggi, a member of R. W. Curtin’s Templeton team, has shown improved form in the last few months. He finished a useful seventh at Rangiora earlier in the month and will need to show very little improvement on that effort to take part in the finish of this race. Stella Globe failed to make much impression and finished eleventh in the Rangiora Challenge Stakes on March 3. At times she has shown considerable promise and it will not surprise if she is prominent. Overdue Win Blue Adios gained an overdue win when she was successful at the Rangiora meeting. Now that she has struck form, she could carry on. She is by Captain Adios from Blue Revue and has the breeding to suggest that she could be a worthwhile winner.

Kerry Countess was a laststart winner at Orari and along with Scotty McCoy and

Bobby’s Girl, she appeals most of the others. A similar field will contest the Murchison Handicap, which will be run over an extra two furlongs. Vaggi, Stella Globe and Sooty should again be the hardest to beat. Double The double will be run on the Westland Handicap and the Metropolitan Handicap, Durham and Gale Song forming a likely combination. Unsettled weather is forecast, but unless there is heavy rain late in the day, the track should be in good order.
