FLOWN TO HOSPITAL
Rumanian Seaman (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, March 24. A 37-year-old Rumanian seaman was rushed to Auckland Hospital today after an R.N.Z.A.F. Sunderland flying boat had brought him to Hobsonville from Russell. He is Manole Precup, from Bucharest, who was aboard the Rumanianregistered Russian whaler Constanta. He has a brain disorder. His condition in hospital was described as satisfactory by the Medical Superintendent (Dr. D. R. Goodfellow). The Sunderland landed at Russell yesterday at 6 p.m. in answer to a call for help by the captain of the 3000ton Constanta. The ship reached Russell about 5 a.m. this morning. The seaman fell ill three days ago while the Constanta was fishing off the West Coast. By 7.30 a.m. the Sunderland was en route to Auckland and the Constanta was on its way back to sea. Shipmates of the sick man lined the decks to wave farewell to the Sunderland. The Constanta, of 3800 tons, was built in Japan and registered at Galati. Some Japanese were among the crew of Rumanians.
Rubbish Fire.—A small rubbish fire at the back of the furniture factory of Hays, Ltd., on the Main North road, Papanui, at 9.39 p.m. yesterday caused no damage.
