HIRE PURCHASE SALES
Rise In December Quarter Hire purchase tales rose from £9.9m in the September quarter to £11.6m in the last three months of last year, according to the Government Statistician. This was a rise of almost 12 per cent. Sales of motor vehicles on hire purchase rose sharply in the December quarter, far exceeding any previous quarter in the present survey of hirepurchase trading. These sales totalled £s.lm against £4.3m in the September quarter and £4.lm in the last three months of the year before. Plant and machinery sales rose from £l.4m in the September quarter to £l.7m, compared with £l.3m in the same period of 1962. Other household and personal goods sold on hire purchase rose by £o.9m to £4.lm in the December quarter. The rise was the same the year before. In the December quarter the average amount of hire purchase coverage on television sets was £145 and on cars £330. Business Personal Mr G. E. Scott, manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, Ltd., Christchurch branch, since 1956, retires on April 30. His successor will be Mr W. J. Prentice, at present manager of the bank’s branch at Whangarei, He is expected to arrive in Christchurch about the middle of April. Trading Bank Overdraft.— Advances and discounts from New Zealand trading banks rose to £205 million on March 4 from £197.7m in the previous week. Last month the figure was £206.1m and last year, £187.7m.
Wilkins Wallboards.— Final dividend of 2i per cent plus 1 per cent bonus will be paid by Wilkins Continuous Wallboards, Ltd., Christchurch, making with interim and bonus paid October, 1963, a total unchanged dividend of 7 per cent.—(P.A.)
