GARDEN FOR BLIND

Proposal Praised Pleasure at the approval of the establishment of the scented gardens in Abberley Park by the Christchurch City Council was expressed by Mr I. D. Wood, chairman of the Christchurch Advisory Committee to the New Zealand Foundation for the Blind, in his report to the committee’s annual meeting. Mr Wood said:—“The idea was first propounded by the Christchurch Soroptimist Club, whose members established an initial fund for the purpose. For those who have lost the use of one sense, remaining senses take on a greater degree of importance. This is particularly true with the sense of smell. I am sure that a lot of pleasure will be occasioned the blind when the scented garden comes into being, but I am more than pleased that in a gardenconscious city such as Christchurch, through this medium, the blini will be able to share their pleasure with the general public.” The following committee was elected: Miss N. Enright, Mesdames S. Mair and H. Wales, Dr. L. Burns, Dr. H. J. Wales, Messrs A. Robertson, I. D. Wood, W. G. V. Fernie, T. E. Turner, A. Miller, J. Williams, K. A. White.
