University Appoints 27 To High School Boards
The Canterbury University Council has appointed the following representatives on high school boards:— Avonside Girls’, Dr. G. Jobberns and Dr. j., J. Small; Cashmere, Mr W. H. Bowen and Professor A. Crowther; Christchurch Boys’, Professor H. J. Hopkins and Mr G. G. Turbott; Christchurch Girls’, Professor R. T. Sussex and another to be confirmed; Christchurch West, Professors R. S. Waters and H. J. Simpson; Linwood, Mr T. E. Carter and Professor J. Vaughan; Papanui, Dr. C. D. Ellyett; Shirley Boys’, Messrs G. Burns and D. W. Rutherford; Riccarton, Professor H. R. Gray and Dr. C. J. Wilkins; Aranui, Dr. B. R. Penfold and Mr G. A. Shouksmith; Burnside, Professors N. M. MacElwee and A. S. Carrington; Hillmorton, Mr C. E. Fenwick and Miss R. F. C. Tyndall; Mairehau, Mr C. T. Ford and Professor J. A. Ritchie; Rangiora, Mr A. Buckingham; Waimate, Mr E. A. Collins; Christchurch Technical College, Mr J. G. Johnston. Accountants’ Prizes. —The university awarded the New
Zealand Society of Account-' ants’ prizes to Mr J. A. George (accounting 1) and Miss Beryl I. E. Savage (accounting II). Degree Conferred.—The degree of bachelor of engineering (civil) was conferred on Peter Robert Harrow, who is leaving New Zealand. Economic Geology.—Mr A. W. G. Whittle, senior lecturer in economic geology at the University of Adelaide, will visit the university later in the year. Appointment—Mrs A. V. R. Reid has been appointed an assistant lecturer in English. Congratulations.—The council congratulated Dr. R. G. Frean, lecturer in English, on his appointment as foundation professor of English at Massey University of Manawatu. Gifts of Books.—Eight volumes of the Penrose annual, “A Touchstone in Typography,” have been presented to the university by Mr M. Littlewood, of Christchurch. The books are valuable as back numbers because each edition is sold out on publication.
