Sumner Wins Suburban Title With Only One Loss

The tenth and final round In the Suburban Cricket Association’s competitions ended on Saturday. By gaining an outright win over Merlvale, Sumner increased its lead, losing only one game for the season.

Merivale made a much better showing in its second innings. totalling 153, Samms scoring a good 47. The mediumpace bowlers, P. Daly and R. Jarvis, shared the wickets for Sumner. Sumner easily scored the required runs for an outright win. M. Jerard, in scoring 64, was mainly responsible for the win.

Waltham was in good batting form against Papanui, J. Feldwick and F. Campbell adding 113 runs in 65 minutes for the seventh wicket. B. Sharp and D. Gordon were Papanul's most successful bowlers. Beckenham made a valiant attempt to gain an outright win over Burnside with a first innings lead of 115, Burnside following on lost eight wickets for 94 at stumps.
