“FLYING SAUCERS”
(New Zealand Press Association)
TAURANGA, March 20. A Tauranga Hospital Board saucer is “doing valuable service for the public on the ferry running between Birkenhead and Liverpool on the Mersey,” according to a letter sent to the board from England. Speculating on how a saucer from Tauranga could reach a Mersey ferry, the writer said: “It was either left by a New Zealander or, perish the thought, smuggled out by one of my countrymen.”
“We had better send a cup to go with it,” Mr G. D. Hynds told board members at the monthly meeting. The managing-secretary (Mr N. H. Wells) said the writer must have put in a bit Of detective work to trace the country and address from a hospital board crest.
Although board members suggested it could have been a flying saucer, Mr Wells said it was most likely a sample handed to the ferry company to illustrate a design. He is to send a suitable reply to the letter.
