HIGH RATIO OF ALCOHOL
Court Told Of. Driver’s Test (N:Z. Press Association) *. OTAKI, March 2Q. A blood sample, taken from a 39-year-old housewife charged with driving under the influence of drink or drugs, contained a ratio .of alcohol which was the highest ever recorded in New Zealand, Sergeant A. Davey said in the Magistrate’s Court today. “The content was considerably more than twice as high as that regarded as a level where it could not be possible that the subject was fit to drive with safety.” Mrs Lenore Jarvis, of Raumati, pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined £3O 15s and banned from driving for three years by Mr D. G. Sinclair, S.M. He said that “in charge of a vehicle being driven at about' five miles an. hour the defendant seemed unable to comprehend what was re? qulred of her when asked to park, her vehicle.” In mitigation, Mrs Jarvis’ counsel said she was a chronic asthmatic and consumed large quantities of cough mixture.
Manila Meeting.—The Chief of the Defence Staff, RearAdmiral P, Phipps, will represent New Zealand at a meeting of S.E.A.T.O. military advisers which will be held at Manila-in the Philippines on April 9 and 10.—(P.A.)
