He said in Hamilton yesterday: “I think it might be getting a bit tough for me in my advanced years.” Sir Edmund Hillary will be 45 this year. Mild Temperatures With a maximum temperature of 66deg. at Harewood between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. and at 3 p.m. in the Botanic Gardens, Christchurch weather was mild yesterday. The temperature at Harewood at 6 a.m. was 53deg., rising to 64deg. by midday. A moderate easterly wind, with scattered light cloud, blew during the day.

Pahau River Bridge

Work has started on the new bridge over the Pahau river about two miles south of Culverden. The bridge will be 336 feet long, with six 56ft prestressed girder spans designed by the Ministry of Works.
