TOWN HALL
Heathcote Withdraws
The Heathcote County Council will not contribute to the Town Hall fund and Will withdraw its representative from the promotion committee, the council decided last evening. “We haven’t got the cash,” explained Cr. C. D. le Comte in speaking to the recommendation from the council’s finance committee. “The amount asked for is far beyond our capabilities; and if we leave our representative on the committee, we may commit ourselves even though we haven’t given the project our blessing.” “If all the local bodies would join, we would come in. But there are only three in it now—the City, Waimairi County, and Riccarton Borough;” said Cr. J. S. Scott. The proposal was passed without dissent.
