GREAT SENSATION IN GOOD GALLOP

"The Press" Special Service

DUNEDIN, March 19.

Smart sprints by Great Sensation and Rondabelle and a sound trial by Explain were features of the track work at Wingatui yesterday morning. Overhead conditions were ideal.

Both the course proper, with the trestles 40 feet out, and the plough were in firstclass order.

Rondabelle and Great Sensation, working on the plough, ran the last half-mile of their five-furlong trial in 52sec, the final three furlongs in 39sec. Both horses came through their work in fine style.

Rondabelle, a last-start winner at the Dunedin meeting last month, is to race at Riverton over Easter. Great Sensation will race in the sprint, the Elderslie Handicap, at Oamaru on Monday in preparation for the George Adams Handicap on the first day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting this month. .

Corduroy (P. Silver) came home the last three furlongs In 39 4-ssec.

Toby Twilight (P. Silver) and Southern Belle (R. N. Marsh) were not ridden out in 41sec.

Ridden by J. Dldham, Explain galloped with something in hand over six furlongs on the course proper in Imin 22sec, the first three furlongs in 40 3-ssec. The Clarification mare has done well since winning the Gore Jubilee Cup and she is in top order to test a strong field in the Oamaru Autumn Cup on Monday. Captain Morgan (M. F. Dowling) shaded Royal News (M. J. Turnbull) three lengths clear of Surf Call (J. Didham) at the end of seven furlongs in Imin 36sec, the first half-mile in Msec.

Myfilou (B. J. Anderton), Tara Hill (J. Carvalho) and The Toff (W. C. Gye) finished on terms in Imin 35sec, the first half-mile in 53 l-ssee. My Filou and The Toff will race at the Birchwood meeting and Tara Hill is a lightweight candidate for the Waikaura Champion Hack Handicap at Oamaru. Great Howe (R. J. Skelton) and Samsi (M. F. Dowling) were together at the end of six furlongs in Imin 24sec after taking 42sec for the first three furlongs. Highland Fair (M. Landrebe) com-

pleted a round of pace work by sprinting home the last three furlongs in 40sec.

Birthright (J. Didham), Lucky Son (M. J. Turnbull) and For Sure (A. J. Tweedie) ran the first furlong in 13sec and completed half a mile in 54 4-ssec.

Lostalon (B. P. Kennedy) worked well in 53 3-ssec and his stablemate, Kelton (P. J. Denton) was not extended in 55sec. There was little between Ravelston (B. J. Anderton), Melotone (J. F. Carvalho) and Blue Haven (A. Allan) at the end of five furlongs in Imin 9sec, the first two furlongs in 27sec. All three could have bettered this time.
