RACING ZINDER FIT FOR CUP TEST AT OAMARU

Zinder improved noticeably with his placed run at Oamaru last week, and a strong and impressive nine-furlong trial at Riccarton yesterday should have him at a sharp edge of fitness for the Oamaru Autumn Cup on Monday.

Zinder, ridden by his race rider, C. T. Wilson, ran nine furlongs on the outside of the course proper in 1.59 3-5. His time of 52 1-5 for the last half mile would have compared more than favourably with the efforts of several trialists tested only at that distance.

Zinder was accompanied by Stylish, which lasted it out pretty well with the light-weight, N. Eastwood, up. Though clearly overshadowed, Stylish kept plugging away, and finished within a length of Zinder. Fit Sprinters Other Oamaru candidates to give evidence of fitness with attractive trials were Champ and Waverley, rival candidates for the Ellerslie Handicap, and Beau Seant, the early favourite for the Landon Maiden Stakes.

Waverley, ridden by his race rider, A. H. Eastwood, sprinted six furlongs with Hullabaloo (Mein). Waver-

ley started two lengths behind, but they were on terms soon after passing the five furlongs, and ran the last four strongly on terms in 50 4-5.

A few minutes later Champ (Stoke) and Llansfair (Hadfield) sprinted half a mile in 51 4-5. They finished abreast, but Champ was keen to quicken on the outside. Champ is a stablemate of Zinder and should not be the weaker half on an appealing combination for the Oamaru double. Beau Seant, with A. J. Stokes up, galloped six furlongs on the plough with his stablemate Takatua (B. Campbell) in 1:16 4-5, the last half mile in 511-5. There was little between them at the end, but Beau Seant could have finished clear with little difficulty.
