RICCARTON H.S. CARNIVAL

More Than £2OOO Raised

The proceeds from the Riccarton High School queen carnival had well exceeded the target set by the ParentTeacher Association, the chairman of the board of governors (Mr M. C. Butler) said at the board’s monthly meeting. The headmaster (Mr A. J. Gainsford) had reported to the board that the final figure from the carnival would “be in advance of £2000.” With the £9lO at present on deposit the amount on hand would be approaching £3OOO, Mr Gainsford said. Mr Butler said that he hoped that building of the new gymnasium would start soon, so that the pupils now at the school would benefit from the efforts of their parents through the ParentTeacher Association. He suggested that, as the school did not yet have enough money for the full project, the building be built in two stages. This would allow the present generation of pupils to gain benefit from the building. He proposed that a second appeal for the remaining required money be made after 12 months.

The board decided to proceed with the plans and inquiries for the building of the gymnasium.
