Professor A. G. Davis, head of the Auckland University law school since 1942, will retire at the end of the year. He was educated at Auckland Grammar School, Auckland University, and the London School of Economics, and practised as a barrister and solicitor in Auckland until 1932, when he became a lecturer in law at London University. Later he was head of the law school at Hull University and director of legal studies at the University College of South Wales.
Mr C. R. Hart, chairman of the Invercargill Transport Corporation, was elected president of the Public Passenger Transport Association yesterday, succeeding Mr N. B. Spencer, of Auckland. The Association's next conference will be held at Invercargill in 1966.—(P.A.) Mr J. A. Arthur, the Chief Traffic Officer for Northland, will be promoted to chief traffic officer at Palmerston North at the end of this month. Mr H. K. Little, Senior Traffic Officer at Inverw‘!* be brought to Whangarei to replace Mr Arthur.—(P. A.) Mr J. T. Eltoft, South island manager of the General Accident, Fire and Life Assurance Corporation, retired yesterday after completing 26 years with the corporation. He was presented with a gold watch from the company. Mr Eltoft was South Island manager for three years, and branch manager for 13 years. He is a past chairman of the Christchurch branch of the Insurance Institute and the New Zealand Insurance Institute. Mr E. J. Ward, general manager of the Presbyterian Bookroom, Christchurch, was elected a fellow of the Associated Booksellers of New Zealand at their annual conference at Hamner Springs yesterday.
