Joke Nearly Killed Joker

(NJC. Press Asm.—Copyright) PHOENIX (Arizona) March 15. A man pointed a pistolshaped cigarette lighter at Senator Barry Goldwater and came within a shade of being killed by police. The incident occurred at a rodeo parade on Friday as Senator Goldwater, a Republican Presidential candidate, rode on horseback around the arena.

A police officer saw a man aim what appeared to be a real pistol at Senator Goldwater and then shout “Hey, Barry.” He sprang at the man, knocked the lighter into the air as it flashed. “The man came within a shade of being killed by my men,” Captain Richard Harrington said later.
