Thai Princesses Are Touring N.Z.
Two members of the Thai Royal Family, Princess Panthip Chumbot and Princess Samoebhak Sonakul, spent yesterday in Christchurch on their way to Mount Cook. The princesses are on an 18-day visit to New Zealand at the end of a world tour. “New Zealand is a very beautiful country, the people are very friendly, and everything is so well organised.” said Princess Panthip Chumbot. Asked if their visit was made at the recommendation of the King and Queen of Thailand, the princess said: “I meant to come to New Zealand a long time ago.” The princesses visited At * <- land and then Waitomo, but they could not see the caves because of the flooding in the district. They visited Rotorua and returned to Waitomo to the caves.
They will leave Christchurch today for Mount Cook, and will later visit Queenstown, Milford Sound, Lake Te Anau, and Dunedin. The princesses will spend about 10 days in Australia before returning to Thailand.
