Russians Hold Injured Flyer

BERLIN, March 17
The Russians have refused to release a U.S. Air Force officer who was badly injured when a bomber was shot down over East Germany seven days ago, the Air Force announced today. The injured flyer, First Lieutenant Harold Welch, is in the Soviet Military Hospital at Magdeburg, where he was taken after parachuting with two others from the 866 bomber. Lieutenant Welch was visited last night by an Air Force doctor, Captain John Monroe, who reported that Lieutenant Welch had fractures of the upper right arm, upper and lower left leg. and abrasions of the left thigh, right hip and right fingers.
