MELANIAN FOR SYDNEY

The promising three-year-old, Melanian, has been sold by Mr M. Baker, of Christchurch, to a patron of L. Moulds’s Sydney stables, Meianian’s sister. Little Maori, a big winner in Australia, was also sold several years ago to a patron of the same stables. Melanian is a gelding by Light Brigade from a grand mare in Excelsa. He had only four starts this season, and on December 31 he finished fourth in the Festive Stakes won by Forbid at Addington. Melanian will leave for Sydney early this week. Bossa Nova, which was unplaced in the President’s Handicap at Addington on Saturday night will be on the same ship. Raced by Mr L Langford, of Oxford, who bought her recently at a fourfigure price, Bossa Nova will contest the New South Wales Oaks later in the season. She will probably join the team of W. Picken. Bossa Nova, which has shown great promise, is by Stormyway from Roschana.
