Easter Meeting At Addington King Gypsy, in the Two-year-old Stakes, and Admire, in the President’s Handicap, might both represent D. G. Jones’ Templeton stable successfully at Addington Raceway tonight. King Gypsy will be one of the form runners in a field of non-winners in the Two-year-old Stakes. Admire is one of the well-performed contenders among a strong field of three-year-olds in the President’s Handicap.

These events will be two of the attractions on the first night of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting.

King Gypsy was the best of the highly regarded Black Tryax’s rivals in the Invitation Stakes at Orari the first time he raced. He did not fare nearly as well in the Timaru Nursery Stakes last Saturday week, but that might have been just a temporary lapse. Form in the latter event should also be valuable. Golden Oriole and Kim Marie chased Black Tryax home in the Washdyke event and, like King Gypsy, both were also having their second race tests. Snowfall, which has shown much promise for a fourth and a fifth, will probably be a much stronger fancy than Paranova and Roydon Robin, which have both gained one placing apiece. Admire will have a host of well-performed rivals to contend with in the President’s Handicap. Like all of the runners with one win on their records he will start from 12 yards. Admire was a winner the start before last and at his latest attempt he lost first by inches to Balcairn in the Rangiora Challenge Stakes. Balcairn will be one of Admire’s rivals again. Although she is on 36 yards this Light Brigade filly will be one of the strong fancies. She will be trying for her fourth win in succession. Cloudy Bay, Happy Ending, and Ulove, from the limit, and Admire’s comarkers, Cuddle Doon and Meadowmac, are all last start form runners. But Wildwood Chief, from 24 yards, might be a stronger fancy than these. This capable Meadow Chief colt will be trying to improve a very sound record. The main attractions tonight will be the First and Second Heats of the Easter Cup. Safe Return and Orbiter might be the respective favourites for these. The double will be run on the Easter Cup First Heat and the Stewards’ Handicap. Front Line, Harbour Light and Control are strong second leg fancies. If there is no further rain the track will be in good order. 6.20 p.m. TWO-YEAR-OLD STAKES, £300; 101. 57 Copper Khan (14) .. It. 506 Douce (2) .. It. Efficient (7) .. It. 0 Far Light (4) ..
