APARTHEID’S TIME
U.N. Committee Wants Limit (N.Z.P.A.-Reuter— Copyright) NEW YORK, March 11. The Security Council must warn South Africa that it was determined to use all means within its power to bring out a change in the Republic's racial policies “within a very definite time limit,” the chairman of the Special Committee on Apartheid said today. Proposals made by the chairman, Mr Diallo Telli, were accepted “in principle" by the 11-member committee. They will be debated fully later. The proposals particularly recommended a ban on all oil supplies to South Africa. The committee also endorsed "in principle” Mr Diallo's suggestion that an appeal be sent to churches, trades unions, parliaments, universities and bar associations with a view to putting an end to the “arbitrary trials" in South Africa and avoiding a “catastrophe” in that country.
