ATTEMPTED 276 MILES

Blisters Stop Long Walk (N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, March 13. An attempt on a long-dis-tance road walk—276 miles from Dunedin to Invercargill and return—ended four hours after it started today when the walker, Mr R. Brandish, aged 23, of 19 Auld street, Dunedin, stopped with painfully blistered feet. He left Dunedin shortly before 6 a.m. and continued to a few miles south of Allanton where he arrived shortly after 10 a.m. He used a telephone in a farmhouse near the road to call transport to take him back to Dunedin. He said he thought one of the reasons his attempt failed so early was that he had set too fast a pace.
